Rapid Freezing Increases IVF Success Rates

07-Feb-2010 NUMBERS tell the story about why couples should choose a clinic that uses rapid freezing embryo technology to freeze eggs and embryos according to City Fertility Centre Medical Director Dr Ashish Das.
“IVF clinics have traditionally used a slow-freeze technique with a survival rate of blastocyst embryos (post thawing) of about 60-70%. But we are achieving an 80-90% survival rate with the rapid-freeze method,” Dr Das said.
Dr Das said City Fertility Centre had adopted the new technology, called vitrification, about a year ago because there was a significantly reduced risk of ice forming in frozen embryos and eggs.
“We’ve made parenting a happy reality for scores of people who have a better chance of having a healthy baby thanks to this approach,” he said.
The fertility technology is being offered through the organisation's six centres located in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.
