Dr Poliness has a keen interest in laparoscopic surgery and infertility and prior to gaining her fellowship worked for 12 months in Winchester, UK for a gynaecologist who was a preceptor for laparoscopic surgery in 2001. On returning to Melbourne in 2002 Anne did a 12 month fellowship position in laparoscopic surgery at the Royal Women’s Hospital for the endometriosis unit.

In 2003 Anne commenced a Doctor of Medicine degree through The University of Melbourne whilst working as a gynaecologist in the public system at The Royal Women’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women.

Anne’s research was based at The Royal Women’s Hospital and was looking at the diagnosis of endometriosis. Anne started private practice in July 2006 and is operating form Cotham Private Hospital in Kew and The Avenue Private Hospital in Windsor. Anne has been extensively trained in fertility procedures by Melbourne fertility specialists.
