Easier Access to Fertility Experts

Northside Brisbane couples who are struggling to start a family have even easier access to one of Brisbane’s top fertility clinics with the opening of City Fertility Centre’s new Brookside consulting rooms.

Fertility specialists Dr Ashish Das and Dr Andy Stamatiou will now consult from the Mitchelton shopping centre.

Dr Das said the continued success of City Fertility’s services had driven the opening of its latest consulting rooms on Brisbane’s northside.

“City Fertility Centre Brisbane’s overall success rates in recent months have been consistently above the industry standard for clinical pregnancies per embryo transfer cycle across the board, including all ages,” Dr Das said.

Currently, about 15 per cent of Australian couples of reproductive age have difficulty conceiving, according to Access Australia, a national infertility network. Dr Das said one of the most important things that couples considering having a baby could do was ensure they had a healthy lifestyle.

“Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or with the help of assisted reproductive technology, a healthy lifestyle will help prior to and during pregnancy in order to maximise your chances of success and give your baby the best start in life,” he said.

Dr Das said 12 per cent of primary infertility was linked to women being markedly overweight or underweight and that improving your body mass index (BMI) could improve your hormonal levels and ovulation.

“But it is not only the women who need to be healthy, as nutrition and health have a direct effect on sperm, so it is important for both partners to consider changes to their lifestyles if necessary,” he said.

Dr Das’s “fertility fit” tips for couples are:

  • Follow a healthy, balanced diet with adequate protein, carbohydrate and fibre.
  • Aim to undertake moderate exercise for an average of 30 minutes three times a week.
  • Take folic acid for three months before, and for the first three months of, pregnancy (females only).
  • Restrict alcohol intake.
  • Stop smoking and any drug use.
  • Check your medications/supplements intake with your doctor.
  • Limit caffeine consumption.

The new specialist rooms are at Brookside Family Clinic, Shop 87 Brookside Shopping Centre, Osborne Road, Mitchelton. Phone 1800 123 483. City Fertility Centre also has consulting rooms at Chermside for added convenience for northside couples. For more information, visit www.cityfertilitycentre.com.au.
