The New South Wales Government has recently announced a new 4-year initiative that will provide a $500 rebate for out-of-pocket expenses related to pre-IVF fertility testing.
IVF pre-screening tests are used to try and understand the cause of the fertility problem and inform whether a man/woman is likely to experience a positive result and go on to conceive a baby naturally or not.
Women can lodge a claim for the rebate for pre-IVF fertility tests taken since 1st October 2019 last year through until 30th June 2023.
While the tests may be related to the man’s or woman’s fertility, only women can submit an application for the rebate. If putting in a claim for the man’s fertility test, their consent must be documented on the ‘Pre-IVF Fertility Testing Rebate’ form.
The rebate is a one-time payment and applies to out-of-pocket costs incurred following a request from a GP or specialist for one or more of the following tests:
- Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) test
- pelvic ultrasound
- ovulation test
- semen analysis.
When the patient visits the specialist to discuss the test results, they will complete the ‘Pre-IVF Fertility Testing Rebate’ form with them.
NSW residents can then claim the rebate via Service NSW regardless of where in Australia they received the fertility test.
