Associate Professor Akwasi Amoako is a fertility specialist, gynaecologist, and reproductive surgeon with expertise in IVF, endometriosis and complex reproductive care. As a certified subspecialist in reproductive medicine and surgery, he combines advanced clinical expertise with leadership in fertility research and medical education.

He provides personalised fertility consultations and IVF treatment through the City Fertility Queensland network and also works as a consultant gynaecologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He is an Associate Professor within The University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine. He holds a PhD in fertility research and leads multidisciplinary studies investigating infertility, endometrial biology and endometriosis.

His research focuses on translating scientific discoveries into better fertility care. He is a Chief Investigator on nationally funded research programs and leads work examining how endometriosis affects ovarian function, embryo implantation and IVF outcomes. He is also leading the development of Australia’s National Adaptive Platform Trial for Endometriosis, supported by the Australian Government’s Medical Research Future Fund. This initiative aims to accelerate the evaluation of promising new treatments for endometriosis.

Associate Professor Amoako also leads Queensland Health-supported research into advanced, non-invasive imaging approaches for endometriosis. This work aims to improve diagnosis, reduce delays in treatment and support fertility-preserving clinical decisions.

Known for his warm, reassuring and collaborative approach, Associate Professor Amoako believes fertility care should be a genuine partnership. He takes time to explain complex information clearly and works closely with each patient to develop an evidence-based treatment plan tailored to their individual needs, circumstances and reproductive goals.

    Q&A:
    1. What defines your approach to reproductive medicine?

A/Prof Amoako: “I combine the latest scientific evidence with a clear understanding of each patient’s individual needs and goals. My aim is to provide personalised, practical fertility care rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.”

    2. How is your research helping to improve fertility outcomes?

A/Prof Amoako: “My research aims to improve how endometriosis is diagnosed and treated, including through advanced non-invasive imaging and more efficient clinical trials. The goal is to reduce delays, preserve fertility and bring more targeted treatments into care sooner.”

    3. What can patients expect when they see you?

A/Prof Amoako: “Patients can expect a calm, compassionate and collaborative approach. I take time to listen, explain the options clearly and develop a treatment plan that reflects each patient’s needs and reproductive goals.”
