When might you consider a second opinion?
People often seek a second opinion if they:
- Have undergone fertility treatment without success and want to explore other options
- Have received a diagnosis they would like explained in more detail
- Are facing complex decisions about IVF, genetic testing or fertility preservation
- Simply want reassurance before proceeding with treatment
- If you are considering changing fertility clinics.
What to expect during a second opinion consultation
During a second opinion consultation, your fertility specialist will review your medical history, previous investigations and treatment cycles. They may suggest additional testing, explain different treatment pathways, or confirm that your current plan is appropriate. In many cases, a second opinion provides reassurance. In others, it may highlight alternative strategies to consider.
Most importantly, our goal is to ensure you feel informed, supported and confident about the decisions you make on your fertility journey.
How to get a second opinion
Second opinion consultations are more common than you might think, and seeking one is a positive and proactive step in your fertility journey.
If you are a current City Fertility patient seeking a second opinion, we can facilitate this through our expert clinical review process. Your case can be discussed in our regular multidisciplinary meetings, where senior fertility specialists, including those with CREI qualifications, come together with our Scientific Directors and leaders to review complex cases. Alternatively, we can refer you to another experienced specialist within our clinic to gain a second opinion.
If you are a patient at another IVF provider, switching IVF clinics is also a safe and straightforward process. For some, a fresh start with a new team and approach can make a meaningful difference.
