The areas of clinical speciality Professor Ledger currently practices in include IVF and fertility care with a special interest in early pregnancy care and the impact of cancer treatment on fertility, as well as gynaecology and reproductive endocrinology.
Professor Ledger holds over 30 years’ experience in fertility, obstetrics and gynaecology with specialist qualifications in reproductive medicine and infertility (CREI). His reputation as the “friendly face of IVF” is evidenced through his many hundreds of grateful patients and families over the years.
Professor Ledger is also currently Director of the Department of Reproductive Medicine at the Royal Hospital for Women, and Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the UNSW, among numerous other important positions.
As the lead of the research group at the UNSW, Professor Ledger’s research interests are wide-ranging and focus on: in-vitro fertilisation and assisted reproduction; the impacts of reproductive disorders such as gynaecological cancer, endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome on quality of life; reproductive effects of cancer treatment; and health economic and demographic aspects of infertility.
He has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers and journal articles, and recently joint-authored the 2020 edition of The Oxford Textbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
